Meet the Libertarians

Meet the Libertarians

Andrew Coventry is one of our recent defectors from the SNP. He outlines his journey to the Libertarians.

I recently joined the Scottish Libertarian Party having left the SNP after 34 years. I will not lie this was not an easy thing for me to do. As the song says I had given the best years of my life to a party with which I had become increasingly disillusioned. It wasn’t only the relentless drift to the left or the blind allegiance to the E.U. although …

Statement on Syria

Statement on Syria

In the early hours of Saturday morning  14th April 2018 the combined military might of the US, UK and France launched what amounts to an unprovoked attack on the sovereign nation state of Syria.  The pretext of the attack, to punish Bashar Al Assad and his regime for the alleged use of chemical weapons against his own civilian population.

Why then do I  say unprovoked? Because Assad posed no threat to the security, interests, overseas dominions, allies or peoples of the three countries involved.

But surely we can’t …

The Case of The Nazi Pug : A Joke That’s No Laughing Matter

The Case of The Nazi Pug : A Joke That’s No Laughing Matter

March 2018 deserves to be recorded for posterity as a milestone. Or indeed a tombstone. A time When the Scottish Judiciary drove what may be the final nail into the coffin of freedom of speech and expression in this country.

It has been manifestly obvious to anyone that Police Scotland are a political animal and creature of the Scottish Notional Party. It would now also seem that the judiciary are firmly in their pocket.

At Airdrie Sheriff court after a trial lasting longer than Nurnberg, Markus Meechan …

Council Finance Reform

Council Finance Reform

The Scottish Libertarian Party has adopted the “Blueprint for Local Power” council reform proposal from the think tank Reform Scotland as an official party policy. Let’s take a look at what it entails.

What are the reform proposals?

Local authorities will have responsibility for all areas which were not specifically reserved to the Scottish Parliament. This is also the principle governing the relationship between Westminster and the Scottish Parliament. Tasks need to be be carried out at the lowest administrative level practical – the principle of subsidiarity …

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

I for one am glad the festive period is over. Office parties starring  teetering hordes of amateur alcoholics, everything going up in price and silly songs featuring diminutive prepubescent percussionists that go “pa rum pa pump um.” (I searched the gospels for this anti social noise nuisance but he seems to be oddly absent from all four.) As you can probably gather. I’m not a fan. Except of course for the capitalistfest that was our own Libertarian Christmas party. Nothing less than a triumph of …

100 Years on: Remembering the Millions who suffered under Socialism

100 Years on: Remembering the Millions who suffered under Socialism

There are two places only where socialism will work: in heaven, where it is not needed, and in hell where they already have it. – Winston Churchill

It is a recurring theme amongst socialists to argue that, if we only adopt the right system, a wonderful utopia awaits us. Indeed, the word “Utopia” owes its origin to Thomas More’s book of the same name about a mythical island where there is no private property and everyone takes what he needs. It is therefore an extremely appropriate …
