Remember, remember, the lockdowns of fear,
The mandates, the masks, that lasted a year.
Restrictions imposed on work and on play,
For months we were told to keep far away.
Shops were all shuttered, streets left bare,
Families separated, no one could dare
To question or gather, to speak or defy,
As rules grew tighter, and freedoms ran dry.
The powers decreed: “Stay in your home,
Speak to your loved ones only by phone.”
No protests, no gatherings, no voice of dissent,
As businesses crumbled, and money was spent.
The masks, the tests, the orders so strict,
The fines, the closures, all swiftly inflict.
But now we look back, the question remains,
Was it for safety, or simply for chains?
So remember, remember, the years that went by,
And never forget to ask “Why?”
